Deadlines:

There has been a major change to deadlines for ALL CGCI awards with only TWO DATES to remember – December 1 and January 10.  All entries that qualify for an NGC award will be due December 1 and the remainder due January 10.

Please note that failure to meet the posted deadline will result in maximum point deduction

December 1: ALL NGC Eligible AWARDS

Club and district yearbooks,

Club and district newsletters,

Publications other than yearbook or newsletter,

National Garden Week,

Video,

Website,

Wildflower,

High School Essay Contest,

CGCI Community Impact Award and

Those eligible for NGC Flower Show Achievement Awards (the Flower Show Awards Chairman will notify those who are eligible)

NGC Award #44 Publicity Press Book (PR-1)

ALL CGCI AWARDS not eligible for an NGC award including

Recommendations for:

CGCI Man & Woman of the Year; Lifetime Achievement;

Lifetime Service; Gardener of the Year;

Youth Leader of the Year; Flower Arranger of the Year;

Award of Merit & Award of Honor

CGCI Blue Ribbon Certificate of Achievement. (Appendix D)

Important Things to Remember:

BOOKS OF EVIDENCE:

Paper Size/Page Count: Letter-size (8 1/2" x 11"). Use a maximum of six (6) sheets, twelve (12) pages or as specified in the award description.  Exceptions: Publicity Press Book Award (PR-1) has no limit to number of pages; CGCI and NGC Flower Show Awards have a maximum of ten (10) sheets or twenty (20) pages.   NOTE: Entries that exceed the maximum number of pages specified, will have 10 points automatically deducted from the total score.

NON-CONFORMANCE: The Awards Coordinator, Awards Committee and/or judges reserve the right to determine if an entry

-adheres to these Awards General Rules

-has been entered into the correct category.  

Any entry judged not to conform to the General Rules will have points deducted.  Entries submitted to the wrong category may be re-entered in a different category at the discretion of the Awards Chairman 

NO AWARD: Judges reserve the right to withhold an award if it is determined that no entry is worthy.  It is not CGCI’s policy to disqualify any award entry.

SCALE OF POINTS:  All entries will be judged and placement determined by the following Scale of Points (exception-Yearbooks):

            1st Place – 91-100       3rd Place – 80-84

            2nd Place – 85-90        4th Place – 75-79

New Awards:
C-6     WILDFLOWER PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD                                                            

1st $50,  2nd $25 each section.   To clubs or individual club members

Section B:  Online portfolio:  For ten (10) close-up photographs of California native wildflowers. To be submitted in a PDF file online.  Photos must be taken during the awards year; each photograph on a separate page with botanical and common names of the flowers plus name & publisher of reference book used in identification.  First page of the file is to be the CGCI Award Application form which should include type of camera used and a table of contents.  Photographs will be judged on composition and clarity.

FS-1B – California Flower Show Achievement Award Small Standard Show

1st $25, 2nd & 3rd ribbons in each class
Sponsors:  Rita Desilets and Pat Zarnowski
          
Eligible for Pacific Region Award #17

  • Must be planned/staged by one or more NGC clubs
  • May be held in home(s) or other suitable facility
  • Must have written/printed Schedule
  • Must be judged by NGC accredited judges according to NGC standards

ONE OR MORE CLUBS

  • Class 1 - Club (Any size)
  • Class 2 - District
  • Class 3 - Plant Society

G-1   COUNCIL YEARBOOK AWARD            

1st $75 & Blue Ribbon; 2nd $25 & Red Ribbon; 3rd & 4th ribbons
            First Place Winner (highest scoring yearbook) forwarded to NGC and Pacific Region
            Eligible for Pacific Region Award #3J; NGC Award #16B         

SPONSOR:  Al & Pat Clayes
NO APPLICATION FORM REQUIRED.  SUBMIT TWO (2) COPIES IN AN ENVELOPE TO CGCI AWARDS CHAIRMAN.
Councils eligible to participate:  Environmental Consultants Council, Flower Show Judges Councils, Gardening Consultants Council and Landscape Design Consultants Council.  The yearbook may be handmade, semi-commercial or commercial. Clip a G-4 Evaluation Form with council name to inside the cover of the yearbook for the judges’ use. Submit two (2) copies in an envelope, noting number and name of award.  Do NOT affix any labels to yearbook.

HS-6      ESSAY CONTEST  -  "Respect The World Around Us"
             1st  $50 To youth club members or individuals in 9th -12th grades.
            Sponsor: Conejo Valley Garden Club
Winning California entry sent to Pacific Region and NGC for consideration
SUBMIT TO CGCI YOUTH AWARDS CHAIRMAN as listed in the current CGCI Yearbook.

Open to High School students attending 9th through 12th grades.  Length of essay: 500-600 words.  The entry will be penalized if the essay does not conform to the required length. All words are to be counted.
All entries must be typed and titled.  Written to be suitable for publication in The National Gardener. All entries become the property of National Garden Clubs, Inc.
